Pageantry looks at beauty through the eyes of a teenage girl entering a modeling competition.

“Alluring…jarringly lucid…The scene is chaste on the outside, yet the mood is undeniably voyeuristic. With fast cutting that pulses to the music, it could be an outtake from a Guy Ritchie version of Lolita.”

Photographic animation experiment.
To combat the boredom of being sick in the spring, I pulled out a cheap point and shoot digital camera (with an absolutely pathetic refresh rate, by the way) and decided to do a quickie animation of some interesting, abstract shadows fluttering on the wall before sunset. 89 frames (and a few color-grading [...]
A series of stop-motion exercises strung together into a loose narrative about one woman’s final morning ritual. A companion piece of sorts to Pageantry, completed as a student at UMKC.

“Sitting at the Big Table.” 90 Seconds.
From the video description: I think everyone remembers being a kid at the big Thanksgiving or some other family get together. It is pretty common for the adults to sit at one table and the kids to sit at another table. I always wanted to sit at the table [...]
Software Developers Cause Their Own Problems. 2 Minutes.

“Fingers is a visual puzzle of sorts, a literal examination of the many subtle, unique ways we use anatomy and the diverse circumstances surrounding its use. The vignettes reflect the random, mildly-delirious nature of our memories in the immediate aftermath of losing the people and things found within them.”

“It takes a gustsy storyteller to attempt such a difficult film. Kerfeld delivers an abstract story presented through a docile and beautiful landscape. At just six minutes or so, it is at all times intriguing.”
— Rogue Cinema
“In the end, “Fingers” is something of a classic short film. It pushes the audience to use their heads, rather than relying on only their eyes and ears.”
