I have moved the blog area of this website to a new address. I don’t think the blog on this website is particularly easy to read, and I noticed a big no-no that it was difficult to track down old entries using this particular theme. From now on this website will be more of a portfolio-only outlet while the blog will have more up-to-the-minute updates and reports. Please bookmark/RSS the new address; I will alert you via that website when there are new videos and films to watch here. I know its kind of confusing but it’s for the best. Thanks!

This is a pretty big deal to me, as I’ve completed around 5 in the past three years. However, I definitely had plenty to do as I enjoyed the last leg of a film festival run for Fingers. Here are some of the videos I worked on in the past year.

Please let the videos load for a few moments before playing them. All of these videos were completed at Vision Teleproduction, Inc. in Kansas City, where I work full time as a producer and editor.

.

.

.

“Circus” – Drew Brees

Editor, Graphics, Effects

As a sports fan, this music video was a lot of fun. I tried to marry the spectacular offense of the New Orleans Saints with the carnivalesque atmosphere of their home games. We completed this video for our client Premier Sports for the yearly 101 Awards banquet which honors the best offensive and defensive players in the National Football League. Drew Brees and Peyton Manning received the offensive honors; ironic, since both of their teams are poised for a deep playoff run this year. I have a sneaking suspicion that I’ll need to put together another video for one or both of them…

The Injury Free Coalition for kids is ran out of New York. We usually do a few informational/advocacy videos for them every year.

Domestic Violence PSA

Editor, Animator, Camera

This makes the second domestic violence video in two years that I have either directed or worked on. I directed a DV video for the UMKC Women’s Center, about college sexual awareness issues. With this one, I was the editor, animator, and one the two camera operators. The 11 minute finished product is extremely powerful. A diverse group of survivors (and rare admitted abuser) share their stories to help raise awareness about the important issue of domestic violence. This is the animated open to the video, re-purposed with an end tag so that it can be used for a local network television :60 PSA.

“Legacy”

Animator

Emanuel Cleaver II is a U.S. Congressman and former mayor of Kansas City. Polishing off the rust of my After Effects Education, I put this simple intro together for a live event honoring his contributions to his church and Kansas City.

Whats Next?

- In January I will be editing a music video for a rap artist from St. Louis, directed by AFI Directing Alumni Kevin Coleman.
- I’ve finished writing a short and I’ve started on another. The second will be the one I’m most likely to produce myself, but that will all depend on…
…If/which graduate film program accepts me. I’m waiting to hear back on 4. If I don’t get in to any of them, my money will go towards that new project.
- More work, more fun!

The 2009 induction ceremony will be broadcasted this Sunday, December 13th at 8:00PM CST, on ESPNU. I did the career recap/highlight videos for college basketball’s all-time leading scorer Travis Grant and legendary coaches Jud Heathcote and Gene Bartow. I’m a huge sports fan and, to be honest, these people flew under my radar. It was interesting to learn about their impressive careers and accomplishments, and I think it’s definitely worth it to tune in and learn more about them yourself! Also being honored are Larry Bird & Magic Johnson.

Pageantry looks at beauty through the eyes of a teenage girl entering a modeling competition.

When the filmmaker’s sister enters the 2007 Seventeen Reader Model Contest, a casual recorded conversation about her motivation leads to a unique perspective about beauty and body image.

The film documents her evolution, using a collage of contemporary and archival footage to help tell the story. From flamboyant childhood dance recitals to excerpts from a 1950’s newsreel titled “Babies on Parade,” Pageantry is a coming-of-age tale that aims to draw connections and questions concerning the benefit and relevance of beauty contests.

Through the parallel voices of artists, average citizens and a commissioning corporation, Art on the Block connects Midwest talent, civic pride and for-profit philanthropy.

Art on the Block documents the work of ten Midwest artists creating site-specific art for H&R Block’s new headquarters in Kansas City. The film follows artists Vernon Brejcha, Brent Collins, Lisa Grossman, Matt Kirby, William Lobdell, Lonnie Powell, Leslie Reuther, David Spear, Stretch and Dierk Van Keppel to draw attention to art as grease for the wheels of progress and art as authentic self-expression.

Aired on PBS (KCPT-TV) and won an excellence in production award from the International Student Media Festival in Los Angeles.
